Now that you should have your first aircraft rented and ready to go, we need to locate an appropriate job to carry. Please note, if you picked up an aircraft in the previous section that was not at your starting airport and utilised the ‘teleport’ option, you will already have a job waiting for you directly back to your starting airport. Otherwise feel free to browse this section for future reference. In addition, there are many ways to go about searching for jobs, so feel free to check out the “Finding Jobs” section later in the documentation for more details. In the meantime we will take one of the paths to get you started in the easiest approach.

If you have been following along from the previous page, you should already be on the aircraft screen, however if not you can easily return there by using the shortcut button at the very top of the OnAir application or by pressing the keyboard shortcut (Alt + A)

To the side of your aircraft, you should see a column marked ‘Manage’ with a couple of buttons and a down arrow indicating ‘More’, that will give you access to additional options for that aircraft. For now we want to hit the job search button next to the aircraft:

This will take us to the global logistics centre, with the airport our aircraft is at already selected. You should already see a selection of jobs available, with some default filtering applied to suit our aircraft:

If not already set, then select your new aircraft from the drop down list and press the green ‘Query Logistic Center’ button to filter the list with appropriate payload and passenger limits. Be warned however, that this does not cater for aircraft having a max payload that exceeds their maximum takeoff weight with full fuel. Some jobs may still be too heavy to carry with a full tank of fuel.

For your first job, it might also be wise to adjust the ‘range’ to limits jobs to just 50 nautical miles or less, meaning you will be able to complete them in a matter of minutes. You can adjust these ranges to your liking later, but be aware that smaller jobs will be biased towards shorter ranges.

Very large jobs aimed at airliners will be more likely to generate towards longer distances, somewhere around the 1000 NM or higher level.

Press the ‘Query Logistic Center’ button again, if you have changed the range and take a moment to review the list of jobs displayed. There are many different types of job available, some of which require specific skills and qualifications, others that cannot be taken until certain dates. For more details on this please review the “Finding Jobs” section later in the handbook.

If a job has a blue ‘Take’ button next to it, you have the necessary qualifications and skills to deal with that job. A blue information symbol :

however, means that you need something else to be eligible for that job.

Other recommendations to look for, in your first job:

• To the left of the Take button, you will see a number. This is the number of individual “legs” to the job. It is suggested to take a job where this is only ‘1’ for your first run.
• In the fourth column, you will see an icon showing the type of job. Many of these you will not be eligible to fly yet, others have limitations on them that you may wish to avoid. It is suggested to take a basic cargo job for your first flight which looks like this:

Try to avoid jobs with this icon for now:

(You can find details on each job type means in the “Finding Jobs” section of the
manual)

• If you are using Tycoon mode/flying with AI flights only, do not take any job with the human only icon in the penultimate column. You can add the ‘Exclude Human Only Jobs’ checkbox to the query panel at the top to avoid these appearing at all.

Once you locate a suitable job, click the take button, and it will be added to your pending jobs list and be available to load into your aircraft.
